1. Vintage Furiesi Santini 2 IG Cold Cast Marble Large Figurine Italy
Current Bid: $175.00 (RF)

The original sculptor of this beautiful two Italian Greyhound figurine was A. Santini.   Engraved on the actual statue is the name of the man who created the mould for this copy of the original.    The figurine was made in Italy by reconstituting real Carrara marble (approximately 70% marble) with about 30% resin.  Measurements are approx. "12" L x 6" W x 10" H.  The dogs are well proportioned and their beauty is easy to see and appreciate.   This is figurine number 86....which was one of the first batch of these figurines to reach the USA from Italy.    There are a very few faint hairline yellowing marks that sometimes develop with age over resin.  They are nothing that interferes in any way with the beauty of this gorgeous figurine.    It has been kept in a fully glassed display case for many years.    On the bottom is the original sticker as shown above.

Rescue will pay for USA shipping. Bidders living outside the USA will assume the cost of shipping.

This is an unusual IG figurine from Italy.   I searched everywhere I could think of on the internet for it and could not find another figurine like this anywhere!!!!  It was created by Valentino.   On the attached maker's label is the following information:

"Using the talents of sculptors throughout Italy, pulverized marble with resin is molded, carved and hand-worked exquisitely in minute detail to produce this prestigious work of art.   To maintain its elegance and beauty, your Valentino selection may be cleaned with warm water and a soft cloth whenever necessary."

On the bottom is the original price that I paid for this many years ago and the original Valentino, Italy label.    Measurements are:  10" L x 6.5" H and the weight (without packaging)  is about 1.5 lbs.  It is in excellent condition.

Current Bid: $70.00 (RF)

This is a a vintage pottery resting IG or Greyhound.   It was made in England and is not marked (which is typical of Staffordshire figurines). This is not a Japanese copy because those copies are always marked with a mark that says "JAPAN". Most of the Chinese copies are likewise marked. However, this is also not one of the antique Staffordshire figurines in this same pose. It is a copy probably made in Staffordshire from the same mold that made the original.    Measurement is approximately 7" L.   It is in excellent condition.

Although the shakers appear identical, there are some slight variations to distinguish the salt shaker from the pepper one. The salt shaker has three holes in the top of its head, while the pepper shaker has two holes. They are both in excellent condition with only the lightest of crazing and date back to the 1950s.  These are truly wonderful and unusual salt and pepper shakers.

Several years ago, a fellow IG lover by the name of Lotje took her life in her hands and went into the back alleys of downtown Budapest, Hungary.  (As most of you know, Lotje lives in the Netherlands.)  She went to Budapest because she heard that the famous Hungarian fine porcelain house, "HOLLOHAZA", had sent some beautiful contemporary style Italian Greyhound figurines there. PJMene Sculpture
PJMene2.jpeg

10. Sculpture Signed PJ MENE Greyhound (IG?) & King Charles Spaniel 1860
Current Bid:  $100.00 (LS)

This is not the original PJ Mene sculpture.   If the original still exists....it would be in Paris.    Everything after the original sculpture is a copy and some of these copies are worth thousands of dollars!!!!     This is an old one.   It came from France.   Under the paint (that some idiot applied).....the metal is most probably bronze but it is possible that it could also be pot metal.   My guess is that this particular figurine was painted during the 1930s.   The color is typical of many art deco figurines from the 30s.   However, my guess is also that the original metal sculpture most probably either came from either the original Mene mold or from another mold that dates back to either the late 1800s or early 1900s.      The MENE impressed signature on this particular sculpture is quite deep.   The dogs are well detailed and the original fan on the pedestal base is well detailed.   Even with the paint (which is now has a few small chips)....it is easy to see and appreciate the amazing detail of these beautiful dogs.    Measurements are approximately:  9.5" L x 5" W x 6" H.

One dog is a Greyhound and the other is a King Charles Spaniel.   The Greyhound looks more like a 19th century Italian Greyhound than a Greyhound.  However, during the early 1900s...there were still some Greyhounds with more narrow muzzles and some characteristics more typical of an IG.    However, if it ever comes out that MENE actually used an Italian Greyhound instead of a Greyhound as the model for the larger dog on this particular work....I would not be shocked.   The statue was originally cast in 1860 by Mene himself. Go ahead and click on each photo...and a larger image will appear.   Also.....I forgot to mention that on the bottom is   an intact cover layer of sturdy felt that has protected this figurine for years.    Here is some information about PJ Mene:

P.J. Mene is probably the best known of the French Animaliers School and his bronzes are today among the most highly prized in this genre. Surrounded as we are by disturbance and even violence, collectors of his work can find relaxation and enjoyment in contemplating the innate grace and beauty of his sculpture.
Beginning in 1838 Mêne worked at his own foundry, casting first his own works and later also those of his son-in-law Auguste Cain. He became absorbed in the meticulous work of casting and chilseling ensured that during his lifetime the bronzes that were cast were always checked for quality,  and finish before they were allowed to leave the foundry.
As a regular exhibitor at the Salon des Beaux-Arts  many of Mêne’s subjects were shown to the general public in this popular showcase where acclaim and criticism could be judged before including the subject in his general Ouevre. This also served to establish public awareness of his new works and provides a useful reference when dating the origin of a particular cast. As a further point of reference Mêne produced a catalogue of all his works and each of his models has an identifiable catalogue number.
After Mêne’s death in 1879 the Barbedienne and Susse Frères foundries acquired the rights to reproduce his many of his important models and these posthumous casts are marked F Barbedienne Fondeur and Susse Frères fondeur editeur respectively. These bronzes are of a fine quality and are cast by the leading bronze foundries in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, however they do not have the vitality and attention to detail that Mêne achieved on the casts from his own foundry.
THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART!!!!  NOTHING WOULD PLEASE ME MORE THAN HAVING THIS LOVELY STATUE THAT I LOVED GO TO ANOTHER LOVER OF ITALIAN GREYHOUNDS!   Judy Longhouse

18. Vintage Unmarked Porcelain IG / Greyhound on Pedestal Figurine
Current Bid: $100.00 (CC)

Although this is in the style of an antique English Staffordshire figurine, I do not think it is an antique. It is more recent...perhaps from the 1970s? Over the entire figurine is a gorgeous high gloss glaze.   That glaze was not cheap! The figurine was made of quality heavy porcelain. On the bottom of the pedestal base is an intact protective felt pad.   Measurements are approximately:  8.5" H x 4.75" Deep. There is a layer of dust. It is my policy to never touch vintage items. I have only ever seen this particular figurine once....and this is it. I doubt if this came from Japan. It was most likely originated from England in the Staffordshire region. The figurine is in excellent condition.
